The AHRC Science in Culture Theme organised a interdisciplinary workshop from 19 – 21 May 2015 on the topic of the Lived Environment. Participants from across the Arts, Humanities and Sciences were selected to take part in the workshop. Expertise ranged from epidemiology and environmental hazard to archaeology, design history, theatre and literature.
I worked on a bid for project funding with four other researchers who attended the workshop and who work in the fields of archaeology, palaeoecology, environmental risk (geology) and social anthropology. Our bid came out of discussions at the workshop on the relationship between deep time and landscape change.
Our bid was successful, and 'Orkney: Beside the Ocean of Time' runs from March 2016 to August 2017. I'm PI on the project, and working with Dr Carin Fearnley (UCL), Dr Richard Irvine (Cambridge), Dr Tony Krus (Glasgow), and Dr Lourdes Lopez Merino (Brunel). http://gtr.rcuk.ac.uk/projects?ref=AH/N007182/1
